Premature Baby

Book Excerpts

Premature baby weighing less than 2 pounds at birth defies the medical odds stacked against her.
The following excerpts are taken from the book about her premature birth,

"Born Too Soon... But Not For A Miracle!"

* Preface *

"HELP!... SOMEONE HELP!" the delivery room nurse frantically yelled as she leaned towards the open door. While keeping one of her hands firmly braced on my leg to hold me on the delivery table, she stretched even further towards the doorway.

"SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP!" she shouted again.
She and I had been left alone in the delivery room for only a few seconds, but it was apparent to her that time had run out.
My baby was going to be born,
and it was going to be born RIGHT NOW!

Although this professionally skilled woman had assisted with countless deliveries over the years, this particular birth was causing her tremendous anxiety, because it was not a delivery that could be managed single-handedly.
My baby was making its grand entrance three months too soon, and this nurse knew it was a life-or-death situation.

Then, all of a sudden, it felt like somebody bigger than me stood up on the inside of me. I lifted my head and decided that the other baby's tragic death was not going to determine Janessa's outcome. As a matter of fact, I decided to do something substantial, just to prove it. I had never been allowed to hold Janessa in my arms because of her serious condition, and I had absolutely no reason to think they would let me do it now. But I was pushing back against the fear that was pushing me, so I found a nearby nurse and boldly asked if I could hold Janessa for the very first time.

To my utter amazement, the nurse quickly rushed to accommodate me by dragging a large rocking chair over to Janessa's bed. This precious lady quickly gathered in one hand all the tubes, lines, and cords connected to Janessa's body and carefully lifted my tiny one-and-a-half pound baby girl into my waiting arms. It was a dream come true, and it felt like heaven!

As I held my baby daughter for the very first time, incredible joy filled my heart. I spoke to her softly and sang to her quietly. She actually seemed to snuggle down into my arms in peaceful contentment! The blow I had just experienced by the tragic death of Janessa's roommate was replaced by the awesome fulfillment a mother receives when holding her new baby for the very first time! That was a moment of real victory for me!
